Join us for a performance by Stephen Collins on the life and work of Walt Whitman.
To hear Whitman’s words flung to the open sky and resounding off the water at Old Frog Pond Farm is to experience poetry that truly lives and breathes. In the first part of the performance you will meet the young and vibrant Walt, as Collins traces back the experiences that led to the creation of Leaves Of Grass, his lifetime work. In the second half you will accompany the elder, Whitman, changed forever by the Civil War where he finds, “the most important work of my life . . .”
Stephen Collins has an uncanny resemblance to Whitman and there are moments in the performance when you will feel the personable Walt is confiding his deepest vulnerability and as well as sharing his passionate joys.
Collins grew up in Cambridge and received a BA in Literature from UMass Boston. He performs one-man shows on Robert Frost, Herman Melville, James McNeil Whistler, and William Shakespeare as well as teaches and gives seminars across the country.
